NWP says new provincial funding means new nurse training in Fairview and new paramedic training in Grande Prairie

Northwestern Polytechnic says a recent funding announcement from the province will allow it to expand training in health care.

Applications are now open for a Practical Nurse diploma program based at the Fairview campus.

A Primary Care Paramedic certificate will start in 2024 in Grande Prairie.

The province announced on April 13 that NWP would be getting $985,777 to create 80 spots in the Practical Nurse program and $368,587 for 48 spots in paramedic training.

NWP says in a release the nursing program starting in Fairview this fall will be the same as the one that started in Grande Prairie just over a year ago. Graduates will be able to seek a license through the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.

“This expanded programming in Fairview and brand-new Primary Care Paramedic offering come at a time when we are seeing unprecedented need for health care professionals. This is great news for our polytechnic and the region as a whole,” says Vice-President, Academic and Research Dr. Vanessa Sheane in that same release.
