City advises residents to be patient with evergreen trees

Apr 23, 2023 | 8:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is advising residents to be patient with their evergreen trees this spring.

While evergreen trees appear to be dead with a red or burnt colour to them, they still have the potential to re-grow if given proper care.

The City recommends residents water the trees, fertilize them with evergreen fertilizer, and be patient, as these trees can take until the end of June until new growth starts; as new growth can occur from burnt or red coloured branches.

Caleb Benson, Parks Integrated Pest Management Lead Hand, said in a news release; “We understand that it can be alarming to see your evergreen trees looking red or burnt, however, it is important to be patient and give these trees a chance to recover before assuming they are dead.”

The City says they’re committed to preserving and maintaining urban forests and encourages residents to do the same.
