GPPSD raising awareness for Mental Health Week

Apr 25, 2023 | 4:33 PM

To raise awareness for Mental Health Week, the Grande Prairie Public School District is having a Hat’s on for Mental Health Day on May 3.

Sandy Macdonald Superintendent of Grande Prairie Public Schools said in a release, “Creating opportunities to focus on positive mental health is just one of the ways to help students learn what it looks like, and to be better prepared to complete high school.”

He added one of the school division’s priorities is to prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally; providing them with this time is a great way of doing so.

Students across the district will be encouraged to wear a hat next Wednesday (May 3), to raise awareness and show their support for Mental Health Week, which runs from May 1-7.

Nancy Gorgichuck, Director of Inclusive Learning at GPPSD said in a release, “Research tells us students who have good mental health are more resilient. In the classroom, that looks
like a student who learns easily and can build healthy relationships – ultimately succeeding in their own unique way. That’s what we want for each of our students.”
