Whitecourt RCMP arrest youth after gun found in backpack

A youth was arrested in Whitecourt on Tuesday after police located a handgun in his backpack.

Mounties were notified by the school at around 12:30 pm over concerns that a student may have had a gun, after he was seen with a loaded magazine.

RCMP arrived and conducted a search of the student’s backpack, where the handgun was located.

The youth, who can not be identified, was arrested, but no information on what charges he faces was released.
