MD of Greenview holds steady on 2023 property tax rate

The MD of Greenview has set its property tax rates for 2023.

At an April 25 meeting, council decided that there would be no increase to residential tax rates.

In a news release, the MD added that only residential property owners who saw the value of their property increase in the past year would see a slight increase in their property tax bill.

As for non-residential properties, the MD did approve a 0.65 mills increase from the 2022 rate.

In that same release, the MD states that it has the second lowest property tax rate among comparable municipalities in Alberta.

The decisions come on the heels of Greenview council approving the 2023 Operating and Capital Budgets back in late March.

That document included an $8.3 million reduction in the 2023 operating budget, without affecting service levels.

Greenview Council has also directed administration to investigate the potential for a small business tax class for 2024, which will allow for a lower taxation class to be created.
