High Level

A wildfire in the Fox Lake area that has forced the evacuation of some homes continues to burn out of control.

Fire watchers in the High Level Forest Area say it has burned almost 4400 hectares.

They add it did not cross the Peace River and remains extremely active on the west side.

Evacuees from Fox Lake are being directed to a reception center in John D’or Prairie.

Another out-of-control fire located one kilometer south of Highway 58, southwest of the Rainbow Lake Airport, has burned 500 hectares.

Fire crews are attacking both blazes.

The wildfire hazard in the High Level Forest Area is listed as extreme.

Peace River

The wildfire hazard is now rated extreme in the Peace River Forest Area.

A fire restriction remains in place.

The Peace River Forest Area has had 27 wildfires so far this year that have burned just over 90 hectares.
