Evacuation Order Lifted

Dunes West wildfire evacuation orders lifted and rescinded

May 18, 2023 | 12:40 PM

All evacuees in the County of Grande Prairie that were affected by the Dunes West wildfire are now permitted to return to their properties. Evacuation orders have been downgraded to alerts or rescinded.

All residents that live in The Banks at Spring Creek subdivision, and within the perimeter of Township Road 705 and the Wapiti River, east of Spring Creek to Range Road 65 can go home today.

GPREP is asking residents to stay prepared to leave within 30 minutes in case fire conditions change, although the fire right now is considered under control.

Residents are being reminded that drones will continue to do low flyovers in the area of the fire to monitor and identify hot spots and smoke within the perimeter will be present for the next few days. If you see smoke on your property, please report it and call 9-1-1.

Smoke will be present in the region in the coming days due to other wildfires around the province, as well as in Saskatchewan and B.C.

The evacuee reception centre was been changed from Bonnetts Energy Centre to the Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre as of Thursday morning.
