As the school year draws nearer to a close, school divisions across the province are revealing their nominees for the Edwin Parr award.

Established in 1964, the award is presented by the Alberta School Boards Association to outstanding first year teachers in the province.

Two more Peace region school districts announced their nominees this week – Kayla Kolosky from the Grande Prairie Public School District, and Kaitlin Saunderson from the Peace River School Division.

Kolosky is a kindergarten teacher at Crystal Park school, and Principal Cindy Clarkson said in a news release “Kayla is a warm and positive personality. Her Kindergarten students are very lucky to have a nurturing teacher who also has high expectations for their learning.”

Meanwhile Saunderson teaches grade two at E.E. Oliver Elementary in Fairview.

In a release, PRSD officials said “Kaitlin creates meaningful connections with both students and staff alike, and she consistently employs a range of effective strategies that enhance her students’ learning experiences.”

They join St. Catherine’s kindergarten teacher Angela Sheppard as local nominees for the provincial award.

Peace Wapiti Public School District does not have a nominee for this year’s award.
