Busy time for local high school football players

May 24, 2023 | 4:11 PM

Local high school football players have kept busy lately.

On Monday, after a delayed start and indoor practices due to the smoke, the 33rd Annual Senior Bowl was played in Lacombe. Team North beat Team South 30-13. Peace Wapiti Academy defensive back Logan Hansen, along with receiver Tyler Craver and running back Trae Best from St. Joe’s, were all on Team North.

Also, the Team Alberta U18 top 100 camp was held in Red Deer over the weekend. St. Joseph’s Connor Critch and Phoenix Fai were both selected for Team Alberta U18 Blue. It will compete in the Western U18 Challenge in Sherwood Park on July 9 to 16. Another 54 players were picked for the final camp in June that will determine the Alberta team for the Football Canada Cup in July in Edmonton. No players from local schools were picked for that camp.

Football Alberta has also announced the first-ever Indigenous All-Star Team, which will play Football Saskatchewan’s own Indigenous All-Star team in a six-a-side exhibition match at Foote Field in Edmonton on July 14 as part of the Football Canada Cup.
