PWPSD appoints three more assistant principals

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division has announced the appointment of three new assistant principals, who will be all assuming their new roles in this fall.

Mr. Scott Bowen will be moving on from Clairmont Community School to join Peace Wapiti Academy; saying in a release “I want to thank Clairmont Community School and the community for the last six years. It has been a tremendous journey and I will always treasure my time here.”

Bowen first started his career in 2006 at Beaverlodge Regional High School and added in the release, he’s looking forward to returning to the high school level and work with an outstanding administration team.

Harry Balfour’s current Acting Principal Mr. Jonathon Groff will be making his role permanent and will serve as the school’s principal moving forward; after spending 16 years teaching and the last seven with Harry Balfour.

Mr. Groff said in a release, “I love that, as an assistant principal, I can offer students even more of what they need to be successful right now and in the future. I love that this role allows me to work with and for students on a whole new level.”

Mr. Groff will join another newly appointed principal, Mrs. Maryanne Buck, and Mrs. Jen Clevette to fill out the school’s administration team.

Finally, Mr. Garth Stone, a teacher and Athletic Director at Spirit River Regional Academy will be taking up the assistant principal position, saying in a release, “I’m looking forward to working with our great students, staff, parents, and community members to continue to build SRRA as a place where students can find success.”

Mr. Stone began his teaching career with the academy nine years ago and holds multiple degrees; including a Master’s of Education – specializing in educational leadership, and a Bachelor’s of Education in Secondary Social Studies and Chemistry.

Mr. Stone will join another newly appointed principal, Mr. Darren Pullishy to fill out the administration team, as as the current principal Ms. Dawne Kurtz-McNaught is set to retire at the end of the year.
