Stretch of road in Grande Prairie getting complete makeover

Jun 16, 2023 | 8:40 AM

On Tuesday, the City will launch a full road reconstruction project on the westbound lanes of 84 avenue between 108 and 116 streets.

The city says in a news release that the end result will be a roadway that will better accomodate current and future traffic volumes.

The work will be done in two phases, with phase one being from 111A Street to 116 Street.

Westbound traffic will be rerouted into the eastbound lane, making for one lane of traffic in either direction.

Phase two will see work done on the stretch between 108 and 111A streets.

Among the work being done will be asphalt milling, road structure and concrete replacements, minor storm sewer repairs, roadway markings, crosswalk and lin painting, and landscaping.

The City adds short term road closures are expected, and that roadway access will only be granted to local traffic.

The speed limit in the construction area will be reduced to 30 km/hour during construction, which is expected to wrap up by mid-August.
