County of Grande Prairie Council Highlights June 26th
County of Grande Prairie council approved a renewed three-year operating funding agreement with the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie during their regular meeting on Monday. The agreement will see the County provide $86,000 in funding annually to the AGGP from 2023 to 2025. That is an $11,000 per year increase from the last agreement, which spanned from 2019 to 2022.
County council also approved an additional $34,000 in funding in order to complete the Hamlet of La Glace Community Water System Project.
Council also directed the administration to form a by-law in order to start the process of closing a road north of Highway 2. The road set to be closed is a Government Road Allowance known as Range Road 54, which goes North of the highway along the west boundary of NW 16-74-5-W6.
Improvements to access Whispering Ridge Community School have been approved by County of Grande Prairie council. The plan, which was presented during Monday’s County council meeting, includes concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk and median work, as well as asphalt paving, and revising the paint layout by using durable paint. It is hoped the changes, which come with an estimated $300,000 price tag, will lessen roadway congestion in the area. Peace Wapiti Public School District also indicated to the County that the school would also put a crossing guard in place as part of this plan.
