Grande Prairie TSR called to real rescue while taking a training course

Aug 2, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie’s Technical Search and Rescue says in a social media post that members that were taking a course ended up getting called to an actual emergency.

The post says TSR members along with a firefighter from Wembley were at the 17.5-kilometre Canfor bridge on Saturday for a Swiftwater Rescue Technician course when they were approached by a member of the public.

This person told them that two adults and three kids from their family were overdue from a river trip down Big Mountain Creek, which is located east of Grovedale.

The training was put on hold and other first responders were called in.

A drone located the five people and a team of rescuers met up with them about 25 minutes later.

Grovedale Fire Rescue and Alberta Health Services paramedics helped with the rescue.

The post says all five people are “doing well.”
