Hamlet of Hythe’s chlorine analyzers to be replaced with ProMinent

Aug 14, 2023 | 1:22 PM

The Hamlet of Hythe’s chlorine analyzers are being replaced.

At Monday’s meeting, County of Grande Prairie Council voted to replace the current Rosemount-Emerson chlorine analyzers with ProMinent analyzers.

The County’s Ryan Konowalyk says the Rosemount analyzers have been failing lately, resulting in false readings and high chlorine levels in the community.

“The rest of the equipment in the County is ProMinent and it’s a different system,” Konowalyk says. “What we’re suggesting instead of doing the maintenance on the existing one is to replace it now. When you look at it financially through a five-year window, the teams run the numbers and it makes a lot of sense.

Installing the ProMinent analyzers will cost $19,900 dollars but should prove to be more cost-effective in the future.

“The short-term cost of continuing with the current system and then the annual maintenance costs with that system over a five-year window, we equate to $28,700,” Konowalyk says. “Whereas if we upgrade right now for $19,900 and add the annual maintenance cost of the new system, we have a five-year cost of $27,400.”
