City facilities offering free activities for Alberta Day

“Hosting Alberta Day activities on September 2 is a way for us to commemorate the anniversary of our province while celebrating its unique spirit, culture and heritage,” says Mayor Jackie Clayton. “We look forward to welcoming the community to these facilities for a free day of fun, active and inclusive activities.”

Public swimming is available at the Aquatera Outdoor Pool in two-hour time slots beginning at 10 a.m.

Eastlink Centre Aquatics has two-hour time slots during its regular swimming schedule beginning with the lane swim time at 8 a.m. and public swim time starting at 12 p.m.

Free public skate takes place at Bonnetts Energy Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the Grande Prairie Storm on-site to skate and take photos from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors are also welcome to stay at the facility and watch the Storm practice from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

The Design Works Centre has multiple free drop-in ice times throughout the day in 1.75-hour slots, including:

• Public skate beginning at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

• Stick & puck ages 12 and under beginning at 12 p.m.

• Stick & puck ages 13+ beginning at 4 p.m.

• Shinny ages 16+ beginning at 8 p.m.

The City also encourages residents to visit the Grande Prairie Museum or Reverend Forbes Homestead, where admission is always free, to learn more about our region’s history in Alberta.
