The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division has revealed its nomination for this year’s Alberta School Board Association’s Friend of Education Award.

This award is given to a school division partner annually, for their work in providing and enhancing education for both students and staff, at their partner schools.

This year, HFCRD nominated the TELUS World of Science in Edmonton, which has been a partner with the division since 2021.

Superintendent of HFCRD, Betty Turpin said in a release, ” The hands-on approach of TELUS World of Science – Edmonton has their team in our schools doing age-appropriate content with all our students. This is a great partnership and our division is honored to put this nomination forward.”

Turpin highlighted the TELUS World of Science’s ability to be mobile as another big reason for the nomination. As they have the ability to reach rural northern communities and bring their programs with them, including; Northern Coding Academy, Science in Motion, and Digital Citizenship workshops.

The TELUS World of Science has also offered a lot of support for teachers and school staff, being able to supply resources to the schools. However, Constance Scarlett, President and CEO of the TELUS World of Science, says they are the ones benefiting from the partnership. “(The) Holy Family Catholic Regional Division has been a strong partner in helping the Science Centre to reach students in Alberta’s remote and rural regions. The students and staff of these schools have taught us so much about their connection to the land, and have joined our programs with enthusiasm and positivity.”

The successful nomination from Zone 1 will be announced on September 20 at a banquet and luncheon, alongside the Edwin Parr Nominee.
