The 100th World Professional Chuckwagon Association racing season has come to a close, with arguably one of the most exciting seasons on record.

The Century Downs Racetrack and Casino in Rocky View, Alberta hosted the conclusion of the 2023 season Sunday afternoon.

Layne MacGillivary won the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Championship, setting a track record of 1:18.86 and winning $30,000. MacGillivray’s final track record run was the fifth track record in as many days at the Century Downs World Chuckwagon Finals.

Two World Champions were decided upon Saturday night; with Grande Prairie’s Chanse Vigen winning World Chuckwagon Championship for the first time in his career, after five times as World Champion Outrider. Vigen won by just three points over Jamie Laboucane in one of the closest World Championships in history.

Vigen’s horse MAX won the WPCA Equine Outfit of ExcellenceChampion Right Leader.

Ethan Motowylo won his first career World Outriding Championship over three-time and defending World Champion Outrider Rory Gervais.

Sixty-thousand dollars in cash was up for the 32 drivers in the first eight heats on Sunday afternoon that did not qualify for the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Championship Dash.
