County of GP updating County Wildfire Mitigation Strategy

The County of Grande Prairie is updating its wildfire mitigation strategy.

County Council has directed staff to apply for the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta Grant to review and update the County Wildfire Mitigation Strategy.

The grant will enable the county to work with forestry consultants and local stakeholders to assess wildfire hazards in the area and develop new ways to respond to them.

The updated plan will guide future activities while taking the County’s current landscape, funding, and other challenges into consideration.

Public engagement will be a priority of the updated plan and a FireSmart task force will be formed to steer the review.
