Grande Prairie celebrates “Welcome Week”
The City of Grande Prairie is celebrating Welcome Week, starting Friday, September 8.
In a release, the City explains the two-week event is a celebration of newcomers and immigrants in our communities, designed to bring together both long-term and new residents, to create a space where everyone belongs.
Mayor Jackie Clayton said in the release, “Grande Prairie is proud to commemorate Welcoming Week alongside communities across the country to help newcomers feel at home and get involved locally. We invite everyone to join in, celebrate the diversity of our community, and help work together in building a welcoming Grande Prairie for everyone.”
The Local Immigration Partnership Council (GPLIP) encourages everyone to spend the week finding new ways to support newcomers in their neighborhoods and communities. Whether that be introducing yourself, volunteering with local organizations that support immigration, or inviting neighbors, new and long-standing, to local events in the community.
