Seven non-profits receive funding at Cash and Camping cheque presentation

The Rotary Clubs of Grande Prairie gathered at the Delta Hotel on Wednesday, September 20 to hand out Cash and Camping Lottery cheques to seven local not-for-profits.

The Swan City Rotary Club, The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, Grande Prairie After Five Club, The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie Sunrise, and the Rotaract Club of Grande Prairie raised $262,269 for their seven local not-for-profits over the course of the lottery.

Jerry Napier, President of the Swan City Rotary Club, discussed the effect the Cash and Camping Lottery has on local non-profits as they are able to focus on their mission of making the community better, instead of fundraising.

“‘When you look at the magnitude of the organizations that get involved with us and we are able to bring them in as partners (It makes a big difference). Because that’s really what it is, they’re partners in this lottery with us.”

Napier adds, “The clubs act as a catalyst for the not-for-profits.”

This year, the clubs also raised an additional $22,992 for the Northwestern Alberta Emergency Recovery Fund by donating $1 from every ticket sold between late May and the end of the lottery towards the relief fund.

Napier says the clubs are so grateful for the turnout this year, even during a time when people’s wallets are lighter.

“Generally speaking, Grande Prairie usually comes through. It’s an amazing community that way. Sometimes we get a little sweaty-palmed because we are getting close to the end, but certainly, the community comes through in the end, and we found that same thing this year with the Food Drive this year. The lotteries are no different. People do come through for us.”
