Sep 27, 2023 | 6:00 AM

County of Grande Prairie Council met on Monday, September 25, and discussed a number of topics:

Re-directing Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Funding:

Council heard from Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation representatives, who updated the council on the foundation’s strategic direction, advocacy, and lobbying for the next five years.

Council, which approved donating $1 million dollars over ten years in 2020, recommended the rest of the funds be used for installing TVs, as the funding’s original use, the installation of Bedside Engagement Systems, has had significant delays.

To date, the county has provided $300,000 of the original million-dollar mark.

Potential extension of funding for the Physician Recruitment and Retention plan:

County Council directed administration to review the Physician Recruitment and Retention policy, (Policy M13) and bring back recommendations on extending funding for family physicians who apply, including those inside the city.

Council supported the Emerson Trail Speed Reduction Initiative:

Council directed administration to send a letter to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, supporting reducing the speed on Highway 672, also known as Emerson Trail, from the west side of Range Road 63 to the existing 60 km/h zone west of Highway 2.

Council supported the province’s tendering roundabout:

Administration was directed to send a letter to the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, supporting the tender of constructing a roundabout on Highway 43 near Bezanson.

Council letter of support for Aquatera Utilities:

Council directed staff to send a letter of support for the Aquatera Utilities Waste to Energy project. Aquatera has applied for funding through Emissions Reduction Alberta and Alberta Initiatives.

Council to purchase Skid Steer Loader:

Council directed administration to buy one S650 T4 Bobcat Skid Steer Loader, for $79,157, from Bobcat of the Peace.
