Grande Prairie Forest Area at Very High wildfire rating

The Alberta Wildfire Service is reporting the Grande Prairie Forest Area is currently at a Very High Danger rating.

Strong southeast gusting winds up to 40-50 km/h, are expected in the area overnight, increasing the risk of carrying burning debris over long distances and igniting new fires in areas of dry vegetation.

Since March 1, 2023, there have been 70 wildfires in the area, burning over 141,00 hectares.

A fire advisory remains in effect, prohibiting any fire without a valid permit besides campfires, and approving new permits on a case-by-case basis.
