Nov 6, 2023 | 4:15 PM

A football player from Grande Prairie has earned some USports accolades.

St. Joe’s graduate Matthew Ljuden (pictured, #57), an offensive lineman with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, has been named a Canada West All-Star.

Ljuden is one of five Celtics products with the Golden Bears and one of seven players on the U of A roster from the Peace.

The other St. Joe’s grads include running back Duncan Critch, quarterback Cade Labreque and offensive lineman Carter Remillard all from Grande Prairie and receiver Carter Kettyle from Grovedale.

All five committed to the Bears on the same day.

Receiver Luke Yakemchuk from Sexsmith and defensive back Raiden Duchesneau from High Prairie are also with the U. of A.

The Golden Bears beat the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 40-17 in the Canada West playoffs Saturday.

Kettyle scored a touchdown on a 75-yard pass play as part of a 23-point outburst by Alberta in the second quarter.

The Golden Bears will visit the UBC Thunderbirds in the 86th Hardy Cup on Remembrance Day to decide the Canada West champion.
