County and City asking residents to share ideas for regional transit

Nov 10, 2023 | 12:05 PM

Over the next several months, the County and City of Grande Prairie will be looking to hear from residents on how a regional transit service would better suit their needs.

Residents in the City and County, along with the towns of Wembley, Beaverlodge, and Sexsmith, are invited to shares their perspectives and ideas to improve connectivity between communities.

The Grande Prairie Regional Public Transportation Study will explore the already existing transit options through various independent bus and shuttle routes, to potentially turn into a single service to become more efficient, reliable, and convenient.

“We want to know how a more robust network can improve inter-community connectivity and make transit accessible to everyone in the region.” – Kathleen Turner, Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Director for the County of Grande Prairie

The study is being led by WATT Consulting Group, and plans on starting public engagement in the coming months through surveys, in-person conversations, and online feedback.

Ideas from the public can be anything from trips between regional communities, to the City of Grande Prairie, and trips to other destinations/events. They would also like to hear if things are working well, and what can be improved on.

The project team also plans on engaging with current transit providers, local governments, and First Nations in the Grande Prairie area.

If you would like to be a part of the study and share your input, please register on the County’s website to get project updates and hear about opportunities to get involved.
