Comp. recipients of international awards

Nov 15, 2023 | 1:59 PM

The Grande Prairie Composite High School has been presented with an International Award, for its recent initiative, the Phoenix Philosophy Project.

In a release, the International Association of Facilitators says like many schools, the Comp. has been dealing with significant strain in the last few years. However, Principal Dennis Vobeyda wanted to change things and put a major focus on staff engagement and formalizing a school mission, leading to a 20 per cent increase in the positivity rating on staff surveys.

This led IAF to choose the Grande Prairie High School as the recipient of the 2023 Facilitation Impact Awards.

IAF added in a release, “The award honors excellence in facilitation and the measurable impact facilitation has on the challenges faced by organizations, including those in the education sector.”

“The Grande Prairie Composite High School project focused on engaging staff, students, and community in collaboration as they set the vision for their newly opened school.”

Principal Vobeyda said in the same release, ” his award is a credit to my staff and their commitment to continuous professional improvement.”

Before the new school was finished, the Comp. hosted its own community conversation-style open house to get feedback on what things should fit into the “Phoenix Philosophy”

A ceremony was held at the school on November 2 to present the award.
