Nitehawk Ski Hill “hopes” to open this weekend

Dec 4, 2023 | 12:43 PM

Due to less than wintry weather, Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park has remained closed longer than in past years.

However, a tentative opening date has been set for Saturday, December 9.

Nitehawk’s General Manager, Johnathan Clarkson says snow crews have been hard at work since the end of November, to ensure the Aqautera Tube Zone and at least one run could open for this upcoming weekend.

“Our Snow CAT operators were out pushing the snow that has been made over the last couple of days, and our hope is we can get, at least a couple of lanes, if not all four open, in the Aqautera Tube Zone for the 9th and 10th, and possibly even some smaller terrain park features along the six-hundred-foot conveyor at the hill.”

Clarkson made these comments before the snowfall the Peace Region received on Sunday, December 3. With him mentioning some snowwork already being done on a couple of trails.

“We are currently (as of Friday, December 1) making snow on Willow Way, the Terrain Park, the Aqautera Tube Zone, and Bob’s Bump, and then once we finish there, we will move over to the Connector/Half-Pipe run as well as Show-Off to get the T-Bar open, then moving over to Easy Street and Temptation after that.” Said Clarkson.

Despite the dry conditions this season, Clarkson, who has been a resident of northern Alberta for the last 35 years, expects the start of ski season to be fast approaching.

He suggests any residents interested in getting passes for this upcoming ski season, do so soon.

“Gear and also make sure you’re getting your season passes, or six-for-five or twelve-for-ten punch passes. You will need those to hit the slopes this season and they also make great Christmas presents or stocking stuffers.”

Passes for this upcoming season can be found on NiteHawk’s website.
