Curling, Wolves games, skiing this weekend

Curling

The Grande Prairie Curling Centre will host a U15 qualifier Saturday and Sunday.

Three teams are taking part. They are the Kyra Doepker and Hayden Phillips rinks from Grande Prairie and the Ryan Farmer team from Dawson Creek.

In the first game at noon Saturday, Farmer plays Doepker. The winner moves on to play Phillips in the first qualifier for provincials Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

The loser of that game plays the loser of the first game in the second qualifier Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

The two qualifiers advance to provincials February 27 to March 3 in Lacombe.

Wolves

The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves basketball kicks off the second half od the season at home against Concordia Friday and Saturday.

Games times are 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday and 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Volleyball teams visit Concordia on the same days and at the same times.

Futsal will start Friday at a tournament hosted by Portage College in Lac La Biche.

Skiing

Nitehawk Ski Hill is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Aquatera Snow Tube Zone is open for two hour slots: 5-7 p.m. and 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, 2-4 p.m., 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Saturday, and noon-2 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Whispering Pines near Worsley is open Friday through Sunday. Lifts run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The rental shop opens at 9 a.m. Excellent conditions are reported by people at the hill.

Powder King near Chetwyn is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9-3:30.
