Two Grande Prairie residents arrested in oilfield theft investigation

A pair of Grande Prairie residents have been arrested in connection to oil and gas site thefts taking place in northwestern Alberta and northeastern B.C.

The thefts took place in the County of Grande Prairie, the MD of Greenview, Big Lakes County, Woodlands County, Parkland County and the Peace River District of BC.

The Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit made the arrests on January 12 with assistance from RCMP Air Services after a several-month-long investigation that started in Fall 2023.

Fort-four-year-old Michael O’Bee and 41-year-old Denai Lanz have been charged with multiple offences including:

  • Break and Enter
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • Mischief Over $5000
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Multiple counts of Failing to Comply with Release Orders

O’Bee was remanded into custody and is to appear in court January 29, while Lanz was released on conditions to appear in court February 5.
