PCP Program to be offered at NWP come Fall semester

Feb 6, 2024 | 11:30 AM

Northwestern Polytechnic says they are expanding health care program offerings this coming fall.

The Primary Care Paramedic Program, a year-long certificate, will launch in the Fall 2024 semester to give the region another career pathway into health-care and aspiring first responders.

Dean of Health and Education at NWP, Megan Stone said in a news release;

“We are thrilled to add this new program to our growing list of health care certificates, diplomas and degrees.”

“In addition to building a strong theoretical foundation, the PCP program provides immersive clinical and ambulance placements that will set students up for on-the-job success.”

The PCP certificate program is said to prepare students for operating in a fast-paced environment along with the knowledge and skills to help people and save lives.

Pre-hospital care, emergency medical services, and how to provide critical care in emergency situations are among the things students will learn in the program.

The program has a blend on online learning and ten weeks of on-site lab learning at the institution’s Health Education Centre in the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. Students will also do clinical and ambulance placements, to give them hands-on experience before graduating.

CEO and President of NWP, Dr. Vanessa Sheane said in a released statement;

“This immersive program is a welcome addition to our growing health education footprint in the region.”

“Rural, remote and northern communities have traditionally struggled to recruit and retain qualified healthcare providers. Our hope is to deliver employment ready graduates who will not only stay in our communities, but also truly hit the ground running.”
