Firefighters called out to brush fire north of Wembley

The County of Grande Prairie says firefighters have been called out to a brush fire near Highway 724 and Township Road 720 north of Wembley.

Officials believe it originated in a recreational fire pit after sparks flew into some grass.

The fire then spread, causing some minor damage to some outbuildings before getting into some trees.

Crews from the Wembley, Sexsmith and Clairmont stations have all been called in.

In a release form the county, Fire Chief Trevor Grant says this is the earliest grass/brush fire of its size on record for the County of Grande Prairie.
