County crews begin work to mitigate wildfire risks
The County of Grande Prairie will have crews conducting controlled burns at four different sites along the fire guard, over the next ten days.
The County says crews will begin today, (Wednesday, February 28) working 24-hours a day disposing of wood, with the end goal being to mitigate wildfire risks for County residents.
On March 8, at the end of the ten-day cycle, the County will “then re-evaluate the level of completion to determine whether weather conditions are suitable for any additional required burning.”
The County wants to clarify that “no special permission has been granted to complete the burn,” and “the County completed the same permitting process required by residents.”
