Lethbridge Green Acres Foundation wins Seniors Service Award

Apr 13, 2024 | 10:24 AM

A non-profit in Lethbridge is being recognized for its work with seniors.

Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services Jason Nixon has announced this year’s recipients of the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards.

He says the winners use their time, talents and resources to protect seniors, improve their quality of life, support their everyday needs, and help them stay engaged in their communities.

“Alberta is home to some truly incredible communities, volunteers, businesses and non-profits, and I am continually blown away by the dedication shown to supporting seniors in our province,” says Nixon.

He continues, “I am so impressed by the quality of nominations we receive for the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards. This year’s recipients demonstrated the spirit of hard work and generosity Albertans are known for. Congratulations to the award recipients and thank you for going above and beyond for seniors.”

One of the winners of the Organization Award is the Green Acres Foundation of Lethbridge.

Green Acres is a non-profit founding management body that has been providing affordable homes and care services for seniors in southern Alberta since 1960.

Nominated by Lethbridge-West MLA Shannon Phillips, she says the group also plays a crucial role in supporting the Lethbridge Elder Abuse Responsive Network (LEARN).

Phillips highlighted their collaboration with the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization as a positive example for all service providers.

“Providing housing allows clients to receive safe accommodations and necessary services, facilitating their transition from abusive situations to a supportive environment. This innovative approach to elder abuse sheltering has gained interest from the government due to its positive outcomes and cost-effectiveness,” says Phillips.

She continues, “Personal testimonials affirm the program’s impact, highlighting the success stories of seniors who have found safety, support, and a renewed sense of happiness at Green Acres Foundation lodges.”

Green Acres was also recognized in the 2024 edition of The Best of the Best in seniors’ housing and services.
