County of Grande Prairie declares a local state of emergency

The County of Grande Prairie has declared a local state of emergency.

According to the County, good progress is being made to contain the wildfire 13-kilometres northwest of Vahalla. County Fires crews and Alberta Wildfire are responding with helicopter bucketing to the 90-hectare blaze.

Heavy equipment and crews will work overnight to construct a fireguard and protect structures.

The County also wanted to remind residents of the current evacuation alert and order.
