May 13, 2024 | 9:36 AM

County of Grande Prairie officials say that work done overnight Sunday to tackles the Teepee Creek and Valhalla wildfires was successful.

The County urges residents to download and sign up for the newly launched Voyent Alert! to stay up to date on day-to-day communications to emergency/critical events in your area.

Teepee Creek Wildfire

A night vision helicopter worked from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Monday, May 13.

Work throughout the night consisted of wildland crews and municipal firefighters monitoring and identifying hot spots.

No new growth has been reported and crews established a 100 ft wet line to reinforce the fire guard.

The fire guard is now 100 per cent complete and structural protection is in place for three homes and two cabins, with mop up starting soon. No structures have been damaged or lost in the wildfire.

Air support will continue all day to support firefighting efforts.

The evacuation order remains in effect, and no access is allowed to the evacuation zone without a permit. RCMP are monitoring access to the evacuation zone with help from Regional Enforcement, Technical Search and Rescue assisting with access control.

The evacuation zone remains the same as communicated in previous updates. (Picture below)
