Northern wildfire now 20,000 hectares, out of control
A wildfire located in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories has now burned 20,000 hectares and is considered out of control.
Fire watchers in the High Level Forest Area say the Cameron Hills wildfire was just over 14,000 hectares a few days ago.
The fire started in 2023 near the Alberta-NWT boundary in the area near Indian Cabins.
The High Level fire office says because of the fire’s intensity, ground crews could not work on the north side of the blaze. Air crews were deployed instead. Ground crews worked on the southern edge and in other areas.
