Grande Prairie man wanted for first degree murder arrested in Ontario

May 31, 2024 | 12:02 PM

Thirty-seven-year-old David James Sietsma of Grande Prairie has been arrested on a Canada-wide warrant by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Sietsma, who also goes by “Toothless”, was wanted by the Grande Prairie RCMP for First Degree Murder of 34-year-old Echer Marcial on March 14, 2024.

Sietsma was located by officers on May 30, 2024, by the Schreiber and Nipigon OPP detachments after reports of an incident on Highway 17 near Gravel River.

He was seen travelling in a stolen vehicle east of Schreiber, ON, and officers deployed a spike belt. The vehicle continued travelling, despite hitting the tire deflation device, and was not pursued by police.

The vehicle was found a short time later, west of the township of Schreiber on Sunset Drive, when officers placed Sietsma under arrest and was brought back to the Nipigion OPP detachment where he waits in custody.

He is on a six-day hold and will be transferred to Grande Prairie to await a future court date.

The Alberta RCMP thanks the OPP in apprehending the suspect as well as the public for providing information along the way.
