Eleven suspicious fires in Grande Prairie area being investigated

The Alberta RCMP Forestry Crimes Unit, with Alberta Forestry and Parks, have been called on to investigate a list of suspicious fires by the City and County of Grande Prairie Fire Departments.

Alberta RCMP is asking the public for assistance in gathering information about the fires.

The list being invested are as follows:

  • Between April 29 and May 10, 2024, there were eight suspicious fires on the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. The fires were on the golf course property, but also have direct access to the Bear Creek trail system. All fires were extinguished by the fire department and patrons of the club.
  • May 23, 2024 at approximately 9:18 p.m., a fire was detected along the South Bear Creek Park trail system. This fire is being treated as suspicious by Alberta RCMP FCU.
  • May 31, 2024, at approximately 12:13 a.m., on Resources Road near the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. RCMP FCU are treating this fire as suspicious and are asking for dash cam footage between May 30, 2024 at 11:00 p.m. to May 31, 2024 to 1:30 a.m.
  • June 1, 2024, at approximately 12:28 a.m., a second fire was reported on Resources Road near the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. RCMP FCU investigated the suspicious fire and are asking for dash cam footage from May 31, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. to June 1, 2024 at 1:30 a.m.
