Kids around the Peace to get a lesson in business on Lemonade Day Saturday

Jun 14, 2024 | 12:00 PM

Young people in nine Peace region communities will get a lesson in business Saturday when they take part in Lemonade Day.

Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton read out a proclamation for Lemonade Day at council’s last meeting on June 3.

She calls this “a great day in our community.”

“It’s an opportunity for youth to learn about having a business, sourcing supplies and, potentially, having staff and resources and sponsorship and executing an operation for a day where they make the recipes, they decorate their booths, they do their marketing and then they sell their lemonade.”

Clayton adds the young business people will be judged on several criteria.

“From their business plan to how their business looks, how their recipes taste, what they’ll do with their savings.”

“It enhances the entrepreneurial spirit because it really engages youth at a young age in the traditional lemonade stand approach, so I think it’s a great event.”

Community Futures is also part of the day.
