First day of summer

Jun 20, 2024 | 12:00 PM

June 20 will be the longest day of the year.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac says the Summer Solstice will happen at 2:51 p.m. Alberta time.

The almanac says that is the time when the North Pole is at its maximum tilt towards the sun.

This is when the sun reaches its northernmost and highest points in the sky.

While June 20 marks the start of summer in the northern hemisphere, it will mark the start of winter in the southern hemisphere.
