Cache in on Dino Discovery VR Exhibit opens at Grande Cache Tourism Centre

Jun 28, 2024 | 7:00 AM

A new tourist attraction opened at the Grande Cache Tourism Centre this week to give attendees the opportunity to walk with dinosaurs.

The Cache in on Dino Discovery VR Exhibit utilizes VR technology to allow visors to explore recreated habitats from the Mesozoic era and encounter life-sized dinosaurs in an interactive environment.

The project was funded by Prairies Economic Development Canada’s Tourism Relief Fund, which has been working to support tourism businesses and organizations to adapt operations to meet public health requirements.

Greenview Reeve Tyler Olsen says the VR Experience positions Grande Cache as a premier destination for tech-savvy tourists and dinosaur lovers alike.

The project also serves as a substitution for the Grande Cache Dinosaur Tracksite unearthed in 1968 and located about 20 km north of the hamlet and will include a virtual tour of the site created at Lethbridge College.

The original tracksite is considered the only large-scale site of its kind Canada, but the tracks are currently hard to access, leading to the development of a virtual re-creation included at the VR exhibit.

The exhibit held it’s grand opening Thursday at the Grande Cache Tourism Centre.
