Most Peace crops in good shape says crop report from AAI

The most recent crop report from Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation says 79.5 per cent of the major crops in the Peace are rated in good to excellent condition.

The five-year average is 70.8 per cent and the 10-year average 69.2.

The report dated June 25 says that it breaks down to 80 per cent good to excellent for spring wheat, 80.8 for peas, 79.7 for canola, 77.4 for barley and 76 per cent for oats.

The report also says some areas of the Peace got 10-50 millimetres of rain during the reporting period, with some areas getting over 50 millimetres.

Surface soil moisture was rated 81 per cent good to excellent with 12.7 per cent excessive and 6.4 per cent fair. Province-wide, the rating was 60.6 per cent.

Sub-surface soil moisture was rated at 84.9 per cent good to excellent.

Tame hay is rated 72 per cent good to excellent compared to the five-year average of 57 per cent.
