The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie will be debuting a new art exhibit later this month.

Brenda Draney’s A Drink From The River will be hosted at the gallery starting on July 25, until January.

According to the Art Gallery, this collection explores the relationship between memory-making and knowledge production by way of storytelling.

“Her work invites us to constantly reconsider what we think we know,” by “examining the ways in which narratives are not only formed and shaped by personal or shared events but also influenced by socially accepted constructs.”

Draney, who is from Sawridge First Nation, and has a strong connection to Slave Lake, has her exhibit described as “works that delve into the complex questions around the notion of intimacy.

Over the course of her art career, she won the RBC Painting Competition and the Eldon and Anne Foote visual arts prize, along with a short-list for the 2016 Sobey’s Art Award at the National Art Gallery of Canada.

A Drink From The River officially opens to the public at 6 p.m. on July 25.
