Tupper Creek Wildfire leads to evacuation alert for part of the BC Peace

UPDATE: The Peace River Regional District says the evacuation alert has been cancelled. More information here.

An evacuation alert has been issued because of the Tupper Creek Wildfire burning west of Toms Lake in the B.C Peace.

The Peace River Regional District says the alert was issued on the advice of the BC Wildfire Service.

The alert is for the area described as follows on the PRRD website:

• 198 Road and the BC Provincial border
• West to Highway 2 and 198 Road
• Continuing west along the 198 Road to the Kiskatinaw River
• Southerly, along the Kiskatinaw River to a point due west of the intersection of the One Island Lake Road and Highway 52E Easterly, to the junction of One Island Lake Road and Highway 52E
• Continuing east to the BC Provincial border
• North along the BC Provincial border to the 198 Road

The regional district says this is the time people should be prepared to leave on short notice. People should pack their IDs, medications, important papers, cell phones, chargers, and keepsakes if there is enough time.

The wildfire is currently estimated to be 130 hectares and out of control.
