Football, rugby, baseball this weekend

Besides the Teepee Creek Stampede and the U17C Girl’s Fastball Provincial Championship this weekend, there are several other local sports teams busy this weekend as well.

Football

The Peace Country Cowboys host the Edmonton Elite Saturday in their final home game of the regular season. Kick-off at 6 p.m. at CKC Field.

The Cowboys finish the season with a road game in Cold Lake July 20.

So far this season the Cowboys have a record of 1-3.

Rugby

The Grande Prairie Sirens and Centaurs rugby teams have their home openers Saturday.

The Sirens play the Sharks at 1 p.m.

The Centaurs play the Exiles at 3 p.m.

Both games at Macklin Field.

Reds Baseball

The U11 AA Reds are in St. Albert this weekend. They play Hanna at 3 p.m. Saturday, St. Albert at 9 a.m. and Okotoks at noon on Sunday.

The 13U AA Reds Team Wray is in Stony Plain. They play Sylvan Lake at 3 p.m. on Saturday then the Parkland Twins at 9 a.m. and Fort McMurray at noon on Sunday.

The 13U Reds AA Team Aldred is in Edmonton for provincial tiering playoffs this weekend. They play Whitecourt at 3 p.m. Saturday, the play two games Sunday, first against the SWEMBA White Sox at 9 a.m. then against Airdrie at noon.

The 15U Reds AA Team Sinclair in in Edmonton. They play Fort Saskatchewan at 3 p.m. Saturday, then the SJP Jays at 9 a.m. and red Deer at noon on Sunday.

The U15 Reds AA Team Weston is in Sherwood Park. They play Lac La Biche at 3 p.m. Saturday, then Sunday against Sherwood Park at 9 a.m. and Stettler at noon.

The U18 Reds are in Stettler. They play the Parkland Twins at 3 p.m. Saturday, then Stettler at 9 a.m. and the Webber Wildcats at noon on Sunday.

WBL playoffs update

The Wheatbelt Baseball League playoffs resume Tuesday with Rycroft at the County Brewers and Manning in Peace River. Both games will start at 7:15 p.m.

The Rage and Mets lead their respective series 1-0.

Rycroft won Game 1 at home Thursday night by a score of 7-1 while Manning also won Game 1 at home, beating the Stampeders 10-3 Wednesday night.
