Calgary Stampede wraps up: Glass wins Rangeland Derby title

Jason Glass won the Rangeland Derby chuckwagon title on the final day of the Calgary Stampede on Sunday.

Glass finished ahead of Layne MacGillvray and Chanse Vigen. MacGillvray was almost two seconds back of Glass while Vigen incurred seven seconds in barrel penalties.

Glass’s time of 1:11.55 was also the third-fastest on the day, behind Darcy Flad and Chad Fike.

The winning outriders were Dayton Sutherland and Tyson Whitehead.

Sutherland was also named the top rookie driver after he recorded the top aggregate time amongst all first-time drivers. Sutherland finished ahead of Chance Flad and Chance Thomson.

The top outrider award went to Ethan Motowylo.

The Equine Athlete of Excellence Awards were also given out. The WPCA outlined the winners in a release as follows:

“Chanse Vigen’s “GRAYSON” was recognized as the Champion Left Leader, Jason Glass’ “CHASKA” as the Champion Right Leader, Obrey Motowylo’s “BUGSY” the Champion Left Wheeler, Chad Fike’s “RIDER” the Champion Right Wheeler, and the Champion Outriding Horses were “BOB” of Rae Croteau Jr. and “WIZARD” of Wade Salmond.”

In the Stampede Rodeo, Fort St. John bulldogger Stephen Culling recorded a no time on Showdown Sunday after missing his steer.

Earlier in the Stampede, Grimshaw’s Denver Leitch won the novice bareback title.
