City and County of Grande Prairie asking for feedback on Intermunicipal Development Plan

Jul 16, 2024 | 12:05 PM

Two open houses will be held this week so people residing in both the City and County of Grande Prairie have the opportunity to give feedback and thoughts on the draft Intermunicipal Development Plan.

The IDP is a long-term, strategic plan that is required by the Municipal Government Act to outline a vision for development and infrastructure near municipal boundaries.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a news release the plan is a provincially mandated document “that guides land use planning and infrastructure development near our municipal boundaries, ensuring that the City and County of Grande Prairie continue to collaborate and achieve our shared vision for growth and sustainability.”

Reeve Bob Marshall said in the same release that the two municipalities have a collaborative relationship, “and together, we have achieved much of what was set out in our initial Intermunicipal Development Plan.”

“The update will provide a coordinated framework that will serve us well into the future,” Marshall said.

The two public open houses are being held on July 18 and 19 at two different venues.

  • Thursday, July 18 – 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – LSM Room at TARA Centre in Evergreen Park
  • Friday, July 19 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Teresa Sargent Hall at the Montrose Cultural Centre

Feedback heard during these two open houses will be used in a summarized report to inform future decisions and revisions for the IDP.

More open houses are to be in August for the IDP, where the final version will be available to view before being released to the public.

The IDP was adopted and developed between the County and City in 2010, and the two municipalities have been in the process of updating the existing plan since 2019.
