Two large donations for Harry Balfour School playground

Jul 26, 2024 | 12:35 PM

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says their Harry Balfour School is “extremely grateful” for a recent donation made for the replacement school’s playground.

Pembina Pipeline has donated $8,000 towards the new playground and Smash and Sons Contracting Ltd. for using leftover soil from the playground installment to create a snow hill for winter time.

Harry Balfour School Principal Ms. Jen Clevette says Phases I and II of the project are nearing completion.

“We are so thankful to Pembina Pipeline and our other supporters for their help in building a beautiful learning environment for our students. Thanks to a fence that will be installed along Range Road 53, we’ll be able to develop the front of our school. We’re looking at a single structure playground and other play equipment for this area.”

Ms. Clevette also gave gratitude for the donation of time and equipment used to make the snow hill.

“Smash & Sons has been a phenomenal supporter of our school. They have provided hours of expertise and equipment, and plenty of soil for our outdoor classroom area. With the leftover soil, they decided to donate an additional day of equipment and support and are going to build us a snow hill for our students to enjoy.”

The monetary donation from Pembina will go towards a sports field and the other items mentioned by Ms. Clevette.

Harry Balfour School is set to open this fall.
