Fort St. John RCMP reporting sudden rash of counterfeit bills

Sep 2, 2024 | 9:00 AM

Fort St. John RCMP is advising the community about a rash of counterfeit bills being spotted at local businesses.

Between August 26 -28 multiple attempts were made to spend counterfeit bills ranging $5 to $100 at Dairy Queen, North Asian Food Store and KFC.

Mounties say any business owners or staff that suspect a bill of being counterfeit can request a different bill, advise the person to check the bill with police and report the incident to the authorities.

In at least one case it is not confirmed whether the suspect knew they were using a fraudulent bill, while in another case the suspect seized the bill and left after it was noticed by staff.

Anyone that might know something about the counterfeit cash are asked to contact the Fort St. John RCMP detachment or Crimestoppers.
