Hockey, football, Wolves season openers and rugby this weekend

Storm

The Storm host Drayton Valley Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 6:00 p.m. to close out the exhibition season.

Friday’s game is a make-up contest form that was scheduled to take place Wednesday in Drayton Valley.

The Storm and Whitecourt start the regular season with a home and home series September 13 in Grande Prairie and September 14 in Whitecourt.

NWJHL

Northwest Junior Hockey League exhibition games Friday include Beaverlodge in Dawson Creek and Peace River in Fort St. John.

Saturday games will include Beaverlodge at the Wheat Kings, Sexsmith in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John in Peace River.

Those games will all start at 8:00 p.m.

The regular season starts September 20.

Football

In the Mighty Peace Football League Friday, Sexsmith plays in High Prairie and Peace River visits Whitecourt.

Grande Prairie will host Father Mercredi from Fort McMurray at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at CKC Field.

There are two bantam football games Saturday.

The Broncos at the Raiders starts at 1:00 p.m. at CKC Field while the Norsemen in Peace River also starts at 1 p.m.

Wolves

The athletic season gets going this weekend for the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves teams.

Wolves soccer opens the regular season at home against Lakeland Saturday and Sunday. Game times are noon and 2:00 p.m. both days, starting with the women’s game.

The cross country running season starts Saturday at Concordia University in Edmonton.

Rugby

The Grande Prairie Centaurs are in Edson Saturday.

The winner moves on to the Division 3 finals.

The Sirens will be home for a playoff game September 14.
