GP Mounties make significant drug seizure during traffic stop

Sep 20, 2024 | 11:36 AM

On Tuesday September 17, Grande Prairie RCMP made a routine traffic stop just before 1 a.m., which led to the seizure of a significant amount of illegal drugs.

The officer spoke with the two occupants of the vehicle during the stop and saw drug paraphernalia in plain view. Both people were placed under arrest for the possession of a controlled substance.

A search of the vehicle resulted in Monties finding and seizing:

  • 542 grams of cocaine
  • Drug related paraphernalia
  • Items associated with drug trafficking

Fifty-eight-year-old Marie Gelinas of Grande Prairie and a 17-year-old male from Edmonton have been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The two were taken before a Justice of the Peace and releases with court appearances set in October in Grande Prairie.

RCMP says they stopped this large amount of drugs before infiltrating our community and are committed to fighting the importation and creation of drugs in our province through various units and duties of officers.
